Introducing Our Photographer Katherine McBroom!

As Life Lived Beautifully has grown, so has our team. I know that I am limited in my time and abilities and it has been a joy to bring other women alongside to make much of Jesus. One thing I believe in is championing women in how God has gifted them. Katherine McBroom has been a friend for years, and I have seen her gifting in photography flourish. She has the ability to capture moments through photography in a beautiful way! Grab a cup of coffee and meet Katherine, the Life Lived Beautifully lifestyle photographer!

Introduce yourself like we are having a cup of coffee together. What kind of coffee/tea would you drink?

Hi sweet friend! I am so happy that we are meeting up for coffee! ☺ Normally I would get one of those fancy frappuccino drinks with whipped cream, but since it’s colder out I think I’ll go with a hot caramel mocha! I am currently a junior at the greatest university in the world – (I know I’m biased!) Liberty University. I am so blessed to be able to attend the world’s largest Christian University and meet some of the greatest people on earth. I am studying Strategic Communications, and I have a strong passion for all things fashion and photography. While I’m not sure exactly what profession I want to have later on, I know where my strengths lie and what I love.

What does a normal day in your life look like?

As a college student, my schedule is inconsistent and all over the place. (I know many of you can remember those days!) Most days I attend classes and then go home and attempt to cook myself something… I am still learning! ;) Some afternoons I will make plans with friends or go to the library to work on homework! I give myself time to spend with my sweet boyfriend, Caleb, on a regular basis as well. I take photos weekly for either my blog “Becoming Katherine” or others’ blogs, which I enjoy because it allows me to be creative! I am currently trying to soak up this season of my life because I know time flies… I want to savor every moment that college brings before it’s over.

What is your definition of a “life lived beautifully”?

When I think of a “Life Lived Beautifully,” I think of an older couple that has been married for many decades… a couple that has loved each other through hardship, sacrifice, and trials… a couple that has lived their lives centered on Jesus. Beyond a beautiful marriage, I think of Jesus – who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us on the cross… He was the one who truly lived His life beautifully because He gave of Himself, and gave to others. A Life Lived Beautifully is one that centers all aspects of their life on Christ.

What are some verses your soul clings to?

At a time in my life when I was doubting my salvation, my parents showed me the verses Romans 8:38-39 that says: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is Christ Jesus our Lord. This verse gives me such peace every time I read it. If you are struggling with doubting your salvation, this verse should help you to understand that nothing can separate us from Christ if we have asked Him into our heart.

I also have struggled with anxiety in my life, and the verse Romans 8:28 is one that I have claimed. It says: “And we know that in ALL things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

When did you start following Jesus?

I have been born and raised in the church, always knowing about God but not necessarily having a strong relationship with him. Church has solely been routine for me, and especially coming to a Christian university I have had to really evaluate my relationship with Christ. I asked Jesus into my heart at the age of 7, but it wasn’t until I was 18 – right before I came to Liberty – that I got serious about walking with Jesus.  Ever since, the Lord has worked on me and has been shaping my heart into the woman that He wants me to be – and I know that He will continue to do that for the rest of my life!

What are some of your favorite books?

When I was in middle school and high school, I fell in love with the “Christy Miller Series” by Robin Jones Gunn. If you have a preteen daughter, I highly recommend this series! It is a fiction story that goes from Christy’s teen years to adulthood. Those books definitely had a huge impact on me!

Another one of my favorites is the “Blue Bottle Club” by Penelope J. Stokes… It’s another great fiction book and if you’re a vintage lover like me – you’ll adore the setting and characters. It’s a fun read with a heartfelt Christian message!

The most recent one that is a must to read is by Robin Jones Gunn and Alyssa Joy Bethke. It’s called “Spoken For” and it helped me in so many areas of my life. It will help you discover, strengthen, and reclaim your true identity in Christ.

If you could tell every woman reading this blog one thing God has laid on your heart, what would it be?

I would say figure out a way to use your gifts and talents for the Lord, and do not be afraid of what others will think. God has given each of us unique gifts that I believe we are to use for His glory! For example, if you are a singer but are too afraid to sing in front of others, I encourage you to just do it. Jesus will be with you every step of the way.
