James: Week 4
It's Monday morning, the day of "starting." What is on your heart today? Most Mondays, include today, I wake up with a list of things that need to be done in the week. Phone calls that need to be made, meals that need to be cooked, deadlines that need to be met, posts that need to be written. I write down everything that is on my heart and every plan that I desire to get done and hand it to the Lord. In the midst of busy days and long to-do lists, the most important things, like spending time in God's Word as well as hiding it in our hearts, often get pushed to the bottom of the list. What is most important can get replaced by what is urgent.
But, what if I told you that memorizing God's Word is urgent? Paul exhorts believers in Ephesians 5:15-17 to, "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." In order for us to know how to "walk" and make wise decisions that are heaven-bent and eternal-minded, we need to know God's Word and hide it in our hearts. This "urgent" task will shape our decisions, motives, and the direction of our days.
Find the pockets of time you have throughout your day to meditate on the Word. You can either join in memorizing James with us this year (find weeks 1 & 2, and 3 here), or you can choose another verse, chapter, or book to hide in your heart. The purpose of the Taste and See Challenge to simply to hunger after the Lord and let His Word transform our hearts and lives. Choose Him first, above everything else on your to-do list, and watch Him write a beautiful story through your daily routine that brings Him glory.
