Reading: Philippians 3:17-21, Colossians 3:1-3, Romans 12:1-2
Be Still And Know:
"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God." Colossians 3:1-3
Drink Deep From The Well:
The gospel transforms our minds so we can think like Jesus and crave what honors Jesus. Paul warned the Philippians of those who walked as "enemies of the cross of Christ." These people are led by their appetites rather than led by Jesus. They set their mind on the temporal and crave the things of the world. As believers, our citizenship is in Heaven. We don't live for the now, we live for eternity. The believers appetite should be for God's glory and not our own (Psalm 115:1). Our souls were created to crave the glory of our Savior.
A Holy Hunger
When Paul refers to people whose "god is their belly," he is referring to people who crave this world. They lust after pride, wealth, name recognition, and anything that is of a fleeting nature in the world. They crave their own glory. The believer who seeks Jesus has been given a holy hunger that craves God's glory and not their own. Only Jesus satisfies.
A High Call
The gospel has not only transformed our hunger, but it has transferred our citizenship. We are now citizens of heaven. We live today for what is to come. That is one of the most exciting things! The trials, temptations, and struggles that greet us everyday are meant to point our hearts to the joy, hope, and freedom we will one day experience in heaven! We long for that day. We long for Jesus. We wait for our Savior with hearts beating faster and faster for His glory!
